The Numb Era

Many of us go through what I like to refer to as the Heartless Phase once the tears stop

Not because we no longer give a damn

However, caring now seems risky

Thus, we construct walls

We separate

We use phrases like "I'm over it"

"I don't want to feel that again" is what we truly mean

We cease to be open

We distance ourselves from friends

We doubt everyone's motives

We navigate life with protection

And we're stuck before we know it

not getting better

merely getting by
